When the new 2017 model year A4 was launched in India last year, Audi only offered the car with a single petrol engine. The diesel variant’s launch was deferred for the time being for reasons not known then.
Now according to reports, the diesel A4 is going to be launched in India in the upcoming month of February. The launch of the diesel A4 was deferred earlier as the 2.0-litre diesel unit that the A4 is sold with in international markets is Euro VI compliant. The Audi engineers needed time to make that engine compliant with the BS-IV compliant fuel, currently available in India.
The new engine code-named EA288 churns out 190hp at the crank, an increase in 15hp over its predecessor. Paired with an Audi S Tronic seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, the power will be sent to the front wheels only.
The Audi A4 competes against the BMW 3-series and Mercedes Benz C-Class in the Indian market.
