The upcoming BNVSAP(Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program) has set the ball rolling for carmakers as they scramble to offer more safety features in their cars, even on the base models.
Maruti Suzuki had recently made ISOFIX mounts standard in their mid size sedan Ciaz and the Indian carmaker has now done so with the Baleno also.
ISOFIX mounts are a global standard for mounting child seats on the rear seat of cars and can safely hold up to 33kg of combined weight (seat and child).
Indian manufacturers are increasingly offering ISOFIX mounts in regular cars nowadays but the big flaw in this scenario is that Indian drivers rarely make use of child seats, and infants and children are often held in the arms of an adult, when travelling in a car.
