We had earlier reported that Toyota is planning to enter the luxury car segment in India with the introduction of the Lexus brand. Now, we have confirmation that Lexus will finally foray in to the India luxury car segment, as the company have commenced with the bookings of RX and ES for the first batch of customers. The two products from Lexus will only be launched by March 2017, with the India operations to begin in January.
Lexus will challenge BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz in India with the RX and ES. Lexus will initially open dealerships in Mumbai, Bengaluru and New Delhi. However, the Lexus vehicles will come with the CBU kit and hence will be expensive to the pocket. Lexus will not be bringing the RC F coupe in India, as reported earlier.
Internationally, the Lexus RX SUV comes in two variants, a RX 350 and RX 450H. While the RX 350 comes with 3.5L, V6, diesel engine that produces power output of 295 HP and maximum torque of 363Nm, mated to eight-speed automatic electronically controlled transmission (ECT). On the other hand, the Lexus RX 450H comes with the same 3.5L, V6 diesel engine but with tuned up power of 308HP and torque of 334Nm, mated to the same eight-speed automatic ECT.
We expect the Lexus RX to come at a price of Rs 85 lakh (ex showroom, New Delhi)- Rs 95 lakh (ex showroom, New Delhi).
The Lexus ES comes in two variants- Standard and hybrid. The Lexus ES comes with a 3.5L, V6 engine that churns out maximum power output of 268HP and maximum torque of 248 @ 4,700rpm, mated to a six-speed sequential-shift automatic ECT.
We expect the Lexus RX to come at a price of Rs 55 lakh (ex showroom, New Delhi)- Rs 65 lakh (ex showroom, New Delhi)
